As they went about their day, Ethan’s mother contacted from Wal-Mart with urgent news: the church responsible for collecting rescued food was discontinuing the program. Without intervention, tons of food would go to another county, impacting our local community.

At that moment, Ethan and Angela faced a pivotal decision. With uncertainties looming, a young man in the backseat shared his experiences of relying on such services. Touched by his story, Ethan and Angela committed to making a difference, even though they didn’t have all the answers.

Despite their lack of experience, they chose to step up and take on the responsibility. Thus began their journey into running a food pantry.

Over the past decade, they’ve navigated challenges and witnessed transformation. Angela, once shy, now leads a bustling nonprofit, overseeing hundreds of volunteers. Amidst the chaos of dynamic economic and political landscapes, they’ve remained steadfast in their mission.

Their organization, CRC Chattooga, has become a beacon of hope, providing groceries to 700-800 families monthly. It is Angela’s goal to dispel myths about food assistance, emphasizing that most recipients are hardworking individuals struggling to make ends meet.

Through their efforts, they offer sustenance, dignity, and hope. To all of us, food is more than sustenance—it’s a cornerstone of celebration and connection. We should all work together to ensure families can partake in holiday traditions and create cherished memories.
