Former Griffin Police Officer Indicted for Violation of Oath of Office

A Spalding County Grand Jury has indicted D’Marquivius Jamon (DJ) King, age 25, of Griffin, Spalding County, Georgia, with one felony count of Violation of Oath of Office. On February 28, 2023, the Griffin Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office asked the GBI to investigate King’s handling of the Javarreis Reid murder investigation, which King was assigned to investigate.

The investigation shows that King, while employed as an investigator with the Griffin Police Department, discovered that his brother, Damon Beck, was involved in the murder of Reid. King failed to properly investigate the murder. This case was presented to a Spalding County Grand Jury on March 20, 2024, and the Grand Jury returned a True Bill indictment on King for one count of Violation of Oath of Office.

On March 22, 2024, King turned himself in and was booked into the Spalding County Jail.

The GBI conducted an independent investigation which was then turned over to the Griffin Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
