Ogeechee Tech Hosts Business and Industry Showcase

OTC

Ogeechee Technical College hosted a Business and Industry Showcase for local high school students on March 6 in the Jack Hill Building.

Students from Statesboro High School, Southeast Bulloch High School, Portal High School, Transitions Learning Center, and Claxton High School visited OTC’s campus to meet with local business and industry and learn what potential career opportunities await them beyond high school.

“This event is for local industry to come and meet high school students, promote their companies, products, and the high paying jobs that are here in our area,” said Hal McCool, Director for Business & Industry Training. “It gives students the opportunity to put names and faces to all of the businesses that they drive by on a regular basis and gives them a better understanding of what they do and what a career with them could look like.”

Many of the businesses and industries in attendance have employment opportunities that can be tied directly to program offerings at Ogeechee Technical College. One such business is Georgia Technologies, a local business owned and operated by an OTC graduate that employs IT and Cybersecurity graduates from Ogeechee Tech.

Mikayla Haigh, an OTC graduate, works as a Service Technician at Georgia Technologies and was in attendance to talk about opportunities in the IT field.

“I’ve been telling these students to stay curious,” said Haigh. “Our field is constantly evolving and if you’re not curious you’ll eventually fall behind. Whether you already have a lot of IT experience, or you are new to it, the key is to keep learning.”

Over 20 different local businesses were in attendance from manufacturing, IT, and public and emergency service.
