Tours of Gordon Lee Mansion announced

The Friends of the Gordon-Lee Mansion will open the mansion in Chickamauga on March 30th, April 6th  and 13th, and May 4th, 11th, 18th, 19th & 25th for tours from noon to 2 p.m. in support of the Tennessee Valley Railroad Chickamauga Turn visitors.

Summer tours will begin each Saturday from Memorial Day until Labor Day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Other times by arrangement. Cost is $5 for adults and $1 for children 12 and under.

The Friends of the Gordon-Lee Mansion is a tax-exempt, non-profit organization that exists, in cooperation with the City of Chickamauga, to promote, preserve, enhance, and foster public awareness and appreciation of the historic significance of the Gordon-Lee Mansion.

Friends of The Gordon-Lee Mansion incorporated in the spring of 2011.

The group opens the Mansion for tours and uses the proceeds to complete projects in and around the Mansion to include installation of metal handrails on the front and side steps, new window drapes and automatic sun shades on all windows, and a complete restoration of the 1814 Erard Harp, to name a few.

The summer tour schedule starts on Saturday June 1st (Memorial Day) and runs through Saturday August 31st (Labor Day), from 11 am to 3 pm each Saturday.

All tours are usually self-guided and remain at $5 for adults and $1 for 12 and under, pay cash or charge at the door. The exception is the four evening candle light tours at $10 adults and $2 for 12 and under. Reservations for larger groups or on other dates need to call 423 488 0861 as early as possible.

Special educational tours will occur late April-early May for the Chickamauga Elementary 4th Graders, visiting many historic spots in town and finishing at the Mansion.

Special tour dates are:

– May 18th- Spring Tours held in conjunction with Downhome Days. This is also Armed Forces Day!

– Sept 21st- Blue & Gray BBQ Contest on the Mansion grounds. Commemorates the original BBQ in 1889

– December 6, 7, 13, & 14- Candle Light Tours at the Mansion.
