Chattooga Basketball’s Dan Meyer Named Player of the Week

In the spotlight this week is the exceptional talent of junior athlete, Dan Meyer, whose remarkable performance set the court ablaze in Chattooga’s recent clash against Armuchee, marking the team’s first region game. Meyer led the team with 31 points.

This week’s AllOnGeorgia Player of the Week honors brought to you by Jim Aaron’s Summerville McDonalds go to Chattooga Basketball’s Dan Meyer. 

In the spotlight this week is the exceptional talent of junior athlete, Dan Meyer, whose remarkable performance set the court ablaze in Chattooga’s recent clash against Armuchee, marking the team’s first region game. Meyer led the team with 31 points.

At 16, Meyer stands as a pivotal force in the team’s lineup, showcasing his prowess as the team’s Point Guard, steering the game with finesse and strategy.

Meyer is averaging 18.4 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists , and 1 steal per game.

“Dan is an incredible player that can hurt you in so many ways. He can beat you off the dribble and finish or pull up. He has a quick first step that’s hard to stay in front of,” Coach Blaine Woody said. “He’s a great playmaker and puts his teammates in great positions to score. He has an unmatched work ethic and holds himself and teammates to a high standard. Expect great things from Dan Meyer in the future not only as a player, but a young man as well.”

In a candid interview, Meyer shared insights into his journey and aspirations, shedding light on his dedication to the sport:

Q: What position do you play, and how long have you been involved in basketball?

A: “I’m the Point Guard, and I’ve been dribbling hoops since I was five.”

Q: Besides basketball, what other sports do you play?

A: “I also play football.”

Q: Music before the game? What’s your pump-up song?

A: “I don’t have a particular favorite, but Hunxho’s tunes rev me up before every game.”

Q: Who is your role model, and why?

A: “My brother; he always pushes to be the best I can be at anything I do.”

Q: Any standout memory as a Chattooga Indian?

A: “Last year when I threw an alley oop to Nuk on senior night.”

Q: What are your personal goals this season? Any records in your sights?

A: “My goal is to beat the scoring record and to get my 1,000 points.”

Q: What traits define a good leader in basketball?

A: “Uplifting teammates during tough times and being a strong communicator on the court.”

Q: What qualities define a good basketball coach?

A: “Supportive, positive, trustful, focused, and excellent communication skills.”

Q: What is the best part of being a Chattooga basketball player?

A: “The best part is playing with the people I have known my whole life and just playing in front of our community.”

Q: Academic prowess? Favorite subject and teacher?

A: “Maintaining a 3.2 GPA; Science is my jam, and Mr. Hodges stands out as my favorite teacher.”

Q: Future aspirations in a decade?

A: “Hoping to hold my degree and pursue a career in sports training or coaching young athletes.”
