Heat index values between 100 and 110 degrees expected

A Heat Advisory has been issued for most of north and all of central Georgia for today through this evening with afternoon heat index values between 100 and 110 degrees expected.

HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM THIS MORNING TO 8 PM EDT THIS EVENING…

* WHAT…Heat index values of up to 107 expected.

* WHERE…Portions of central, east central, north central, northeast, southeast and west central Georgia.

* WHEN…For the Heat Advisory, from 11 AM to 8 PM EDT Thursday.

* IMPACTS…Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS… Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.

This Hazardous Weather Outlook is for portions of North and Central Georgia. .DAY ONE…Today and Tonight… A Heat Advisory has been issued for most of north and all of central Georgia for today through this evening with afternoon heat index values between 100 and 110 degrees expected. Isolated to scattered thunderstorms, some of which could be strong to severe will once again be possible across portions of north and central Georgia today. The primary severe hazard would be damaging wind gusts and large hail. In addition, storms could also produce frequent lightning and locally heavy rainfall. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN…Friday through Wednesday… Daytime heat index values ranging from greater than 100 to near 110 degrees are expected for much of north and central Georgia again on Friday. Additionally, as line of strong to severe thunderstorms is expected Friday afternoon and evening with damaging wind gusts and large hail possible. Temperatures and dewpoints lower slightly beyond Friday as a weak cold front pushes into the area, before rebounding to Heat Advisory levels on Wednesday with widespread highs forecast in the triple digits
