Natalie Edwards, a junior at CHS, was recently given the opportunity to participate in Floyd Medical Center’s “Voulnteen” program this past summer.
The program chooses ten carefully selected high schoolers, and according to Carolyn Falcitelli, Director of Volunteer Services at Floyd, “The Volunteen Program at Floyd Medical Center provides students an opportunity to explore different healthcare career options in a hospital setting.”
We were able to interview Natalie on her experiences throughout the program. Her favorite part of the program were the connections she made. She found everyone she met very “sweet and polite.” She learned about new procedures, equipment, and better time management. When asked about the impact the program had on her life, she answered saying, “It impacted my future so much. It was absolutely amazing. It was just being in the medical field so close and personal, and working with some actual patients at points, it impacted not only how I felt about the medical field, but helped me direct what path I actually wanted to go to.”  This program meant so much to Natalie and her future. She stated, “I enjoyed it [very] much. I was there twenty minutes early almost every day. I couldn’t have loved it more, it was the experience of a lifetime.”
