When the Boys of Summer make way for the Girls of Fall

Chattooga County’s legendary softball Coach, Jeff Bennett, is beginning his 40th year in the dugout with a new era for Chattooga High School Softball. With the addition of a state-of-the-art softball complex, Chattooga has set the bar for softball at the AA Division across the entire state of Georgia. The complex features a 300-seat bleacher section, custom dugouts (complete with bathrooms in both dugouts), a press box/concession stand, a locker room and batting cage along with an additional 180-vehicle parking lot. The softball complex will open for the Lady Indians’ first home game and will include a dedication for the new field.

Coach Bennett has coached at both local high schools in Chattooga County; Trion and Chattooga. This will mark his sixth year back at Chattooga. He graduated from Trion High School in 1973 and went on to pitch at West Georgia College from 1973-1977.

Coach Bennett and his wife, Kathy, have one daughter, Beth, and son-in-law Casey, and two grandchildren, Emma Ann and Ben.

“I am very excited about our new complex! It is going to be one of the best in Georgia. We are excited about our team and the ladies have been working hard. Our motto is: one day and one game at a time. Our pitchers are Hannah Thrasher- 9th grade, Alex Mitchell -10 grade and Rose Jones- 11th grade. All three of our pitchers will get plenty of time. Our leaders are Abbey Tudor and Rachel Nichols (they will be 4 year starters), Abby Hosmer, Ziyah Underwood, Sydney Marshall and Taylor Williams,” said Coach Bennett.
