United Grocery Outlet Donates Pumpkins for 1st Graders

Leroy Massey Elementary School’s 95 first graders have been learning about the life cycles of pumpkins. With it being close to Halloween the teachers  have tied pumpkins into the learning curriculum for this week.

The students learned the life of a pumpkin starts by planting a pumpkin seed in the warm ground. After plenty of sunshine and water, the seeds will sprout a small plant. The leaves and vine grow larger and finally, pumpkin flowers blossom. The female blossom produces a green pumpkin that ripens to an orange pumpkin.

United Grocery Outlet graciously donated pumpkins at a greatly reduced cost to allow each student to have the opportunity to examine a real pumpkin. This community involvement really helped out the teachers and gave the students a chance to have their own pumpkin.

“We are excited that United Grocery Outlet stepped up to help the Leroy Massey Elementary School 1st grade students have this opportunity to learn about pumpkins with a pumpkin of their own,” said Mrs. Kilgore, a 1st grade teacher at Leroy Massey. “We are very grateful to Aaron Woods and his team for helping us make this opportunity possible.”
