OTC Fish & Wildlife Alum Shares Experience

Austion was invited to campus to speak to current students by the Fish & Wildlife Management program instructor.

Charles Austion, a spring 2019 graduate from Ogeechee Tech’s Fish & Wildlife Management program, was invited to OTC as a guest speaker to share with students how earning his degree jumpstarted his career.

“After I started working with the Department of Environmental Protection in the office of Greenways and Trails, I learned that the leadership there was impressed with the Fish and Wildlife courses that I took at OTC, and that those courses may have been the tipping point that helped me land my job,” he said.

Prior to attending OTC, Austion earned a BS in Outdoor Recreation from Georgia Southern University and plans on continuing his education to advance his career.

“I currently work as an Outdoor Recreation Specialist and my time at OTC played a large role in the career path I have chosen,” said Austion. “I’m looking to advance my career even further by obtaining a master’s degree in Urban Ecology and Sustainable Planning.”

Austion was invited to campus to speak to current students by Casey Corbett, the Fish & Wildlife Management program instructor. “I am very proud of Mr. Austion and his accomplishments. It was a pleasure to have him back in the classroom to share his story and journey with our students, and reassure them of the rewarding career awaiting them in the great outdoors,” said Corbett.

The Fish & Wildlife Management program prepares graduates for careers as wildlife technicians in state and federal agencies, private or corporately-owned hunting plantations, or companies specializing in wildlife damage control.
