Dr. Amy Dorminey Named OTC Instructor Of The Year

The award is an annual, statewide competition that honors the Technical College System of Georgia’s most outstanding instructors

Dr. Amy Dorminey, Veterinary Technology Program Director at Ogeechee Technical College, was recently named the College’s Rick Perkins Award for Excellence in Technical Instruction recipient.

The award is an annual, statewide competition that honors the Technical College System of Georgia’s most outstanding instructors. Started in 1991, this honor recognizes technical college instructors who make significant contributions to technical education through service, innovation, and leadership in their field.

Dorminey said, “I am honored to be selected for this award. I have such a respect for technical education because it truly allows students to gain the hands-on skills they need to enter into the profession they have chosen.”

The Instructor of the Year is named each year during the spring faculty/staff meeting. Dr. Ryan Foley, Executive Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs, said, “I have no doubt that Dr. Dorminey will represent us well. Her passion for her students and her profession is evident in everything she does.“

Dorminey, who has been an instructor at the College since fall of 2014, will go on to represent the College at the Rick Perkins regional competition. She received a check from the Ogeechee Technical College Foundation, a plaque, and a reserved parking space for a year.

“I am a person that feels things deeply, and I feel so strongly that I am where I’m supposed to be,” said Dorminey. “I am allowed to teach the thing that I love most to others who love it too.”

Ogeechee Technical College (OTC) is a unit of the Technical College System of Georgia.
