Memorial Day Facts

The total number of Americans killed in all U.S. Wars exceeds 1,100,000.

During the Normandy Campaign alone 29,204 Americans were killed in action.

More than 400,000 are buried at Arlington Cemetery.

Today more than 2,112,300 people serve in the U.S. Military.

On May 30, 1868 Gen. John Logan observed the first Decoration Day.

Since 1967 the holiday has been known as Memorial Day.

Today nationwide there will be a moment of silence to honor our fallen soldiers at 3pm.

Chattooga County has lost many fine men in war, among those,  Larry Wade Duke is honored on Panel 13W, Row 103 of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
