Several charged, Including a County Commissioner, with Racketeering, Drugs Sales

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has arrested a number of people in conjunction with a racketeering and drug sales investigation.

On Thursday, November 7, 2019, Hartwell police officers, deputies with the Hart County Sheriff’s Office, and GBI agents from the Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office (ARDEO) executed search warrants at 414 Winding Way Hartwell, GA, 1380 North Forest Avenue Hartwell, GA, 2152 Anderson Highway Hartwell, GA, and 2132 Anderson Highway, Hartwell, GA.

The following people were arrested:

R.C. Oglesby, 65 years old (10 counts of Shoplifting, 2 counts of Racketeering), Hart County Commissioner

Stephen Oglesby, 41 years old (3 counts of Racketeering)

Amy Oglesby, 38 years old (10 counts of Racketeering)

Dasia Oglesby, 21 years old (1 count of Racketeering)

Monique Oglesby, 28 years old (1 count of Racketeering)

ARDEO concluded a lengthy investigation in Hart County that yielded cocaine and marijuana.  It was also determined that EBT card fraud was being utilized to defraud the State of Georgia.

Everyone arrested was transported to the Hart County Jail.

The Hartwell Police Department, Hart County Sheriff’s Office, Georgia Department of Revenue, Georgia Department of Agriculture, Georgia Inspector General’s Office, Anderson County Sheriff’s Office, and the Anderson Police Department participated in the investigation.

As the investigation progresses, other charges and arrests are expected.

The Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office is a multi-agency unit that consists of the following Sheriff’s Offices: White County, Lumpkin County, Towns County, Banks County, Jackson County, Habersham County, Stephens County, Rabun County and Franklin County, Gilmer County, Fannin County, along with the Cleveland Police Department, Lavonia Police Department, the Toccoa Police Department, the Georgia National Guard Counter Drug Task Force, the Department of Public Safety, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
