Record Season in the Books, Post Season Means Clean Slate

“A coach once told me, the next step after having success is learning how to handle success”, Coach Jared Groce said referring to the recent shooting slump the Chattooga Boys Basketball Team has hit. The Indians are fixing the slump, the only way they know how, by practicing on Super Bowl Sunday, their “off day”. Practice is the best place to restore confidence and refocus on the big picture.

This team is not new to winning championships. Over the summer they attended Florida State University’s Basketball camp went 10-0, beat the 2015 Georgia AA State Champs twice and won the camp championship. The Indians throughout the season have claimed three tournament titles, beating AAA, AAAA, and AAAAA schools. They have had a record setting season already, won 22 games, clinched Region 7-AA, and now they have hit a little shooting slump. It happens to the best basketball players, even Michael Jordan had ‘off’ games.

For the Indians the two recent losses have no real value. They remain the #1 seed for the Region tournament and are automatically headed to the State Tournament, as Coach Groce pointed out, “the slate is clean and the new season begins now.”

Several months ago Coach Groce told All On Georgia the keys to success for his team, which remain true as the Indians look towards post season action.

  1. “We stay humble.” A humble man worries about the needs of others, not himself.
  2. “We play as a team.” No single person’s efforts have secured the team’s #1 seed or broke all the records this season. Basketball is a team sport. It is the norm for this team to have seven players to score six or more points from the bench and the Indians usually have over ten players score each game, making every win a team effort.
  3.  “We stay hungry for success.” Regular seasons goals have been accomplished with 22 wins and now it’s time for post-season success for the Indians.
