Dr. Mobbs ready to kickoff the school year

Chattooga High School Principal Dr. Emily Mobbs is ready for classes to begin on Thursday August 1. “This year’s motto is “Chattooga Strong“, all Chattooga County schools are embracing this theme as we strive together to reach the next generation,” said Mobbs.

As students head back these are some new additions to the Tribe:

Corey Head – Math Teacher

David Whitfield – Math/SPED Teacher (transfer from SMS)

Kim Justice – WIOA Assistant

Chasity Brunache – Primary Assignment was previously SMS, but will now be at CHS (she will still travel and serve band students at all schools.)

The Administrative Team

Emily Mobbs – Principal

Nancy Edwards – Assistant Principal/CTAE Director

Jeremy Heathcock – Assistant Principal/Discipline/SPED

Jennifer Reese – Assistant Principal/Curriculum and Testing

Barry Peppers – Crossroads Academy Principal/Athletic Director

When asked about the adjustment back to five days and shorter classes Dr. Mobbs had this to say:

“Our teachers are trained to teach bell to bell no matter how many minutes are included in that time period. That is what we will continue to do. It will take time to adjust, but due to the nature of working with kids, teachers are some of the most flexible and accommodating professionals in the workforce. Students will have to become more accountable in their time management practices so that they are able to meet assignment deadlines and balance their responsibilities and class requirements. When we are working together to support these efforts, we can ensure that the quality of our education will not be compromised by calendar alterations. We are in the business of educating children and that is what we are going to do.” 

Changes at the Crossroads Academy

The Crossroads Academy is now strictly for students who have been removed from the regular classroom setting due to discipline/behavior issues. This program will serve students from 8am – 12pm each day in their new location at the Chattooga County Education Center. The number of students in the academy fluctuates depending upon current punitive situations. 

Mountain Charter School is scheduled to open November 1st. This school will target and assist students who are behind academically or have other situations where an alternative setting is more conducive to their individual needs. 

Mike Martin and Mark Pickle will be assisting with Mountain Charter which will be a 4-day school. 

Dr. Mobbs, who previously served as the CTAE Director, says as she transitions into the principal’s position, her goals are,  “to support the teachers to continue the great work they are already doing and to encourage the students to rise to meet each challenge in which they are faced. At the end of last school year, each teacher talked with their students to gather feedback and their thoughts in reflection of the year. They then met with administration and the Success Team to discuss common themes. Through those meetings, we have made small adjustments to some practices to aide in the process of improvement. I look forward to this school year and I “Expect Success!””
