Trion’s Dynamic Pitching Duo Opens Up the State Tournament with a WIN

Trion Lady Dogs have had an epic season thus far.  Setting the school record of 27 wins and being crowned Region 6-A champs for the first time. The girls are currently on the longest winning streak as well at 22 games after a win in the first round of state softball semi-finals earlier today in Columbus, defeating ECI 5-4.

The dynamic pitching duo of Peyton Henderson and Lindsey Shepherd delivered the win for the Trion Lady Dogs Softball team today in the first round of state semi-finals. Peyton started the game on the mound and Lindsey came in as closer to finish the 6th and 7th innings.

Coach Jason Lanham commented “it was a great game, pitched very well, got some timely hits and played great defense.” He added, “It is always good to get that first win in the tournament.”

According to Lamar Turner:  ECI’s lead off hitter took the second pitch over the fence, Trion answered with 2 runs of their own in the bottom of the first. Over the next 4 innings Lindsey Shepherd added a home run and the Lady Dogs increased their lead to 5-2.  ECI scored 2 in the 6th cutting the lead to 5-4 in the 6th inning. Shepherd took the mound with one out and shut the door on ECI’s rally. The top of the seventh inning found the Lady Dogs facing the tying run on first and 2 outs, the runner tried to steal second base and was thrown out by Rayven.

The Lady Dogs are seeking the ultimate prize for their record setting season, a state championship ring.

Their next game will be against Baconton at 6:00 pm. One game down three more to go in the quest for the ring.
