Board of Education determines appropriate action to replace the District 1 vacant seat

The Chattooga County Board of Education held a called meeting on April 25, 2019 and discussed many items including how to determine the appropriate action necessary to replace the District 1, vacant Board of Education seat.

Board Member Sam Ballard said that interested applicants should send a letter to Mr. Hosmer at the County Office, or anyone can speak to any board member in person and the board member will relay the information to Mr. Hosmer.

According to a letter sent from the school system attorney, Cory Kirby of Harben, Hartley & Hawkins “qualifications for the individual the board selects to fill the vacancy and the representative district Mr. Turner represented, must meet all the requirements (age, residency, etc.) for that position. There is no specific method that the Board is to use to determine interest in filling the vacancy.”

The major system priority listed out concerning the vacant board seat is “attracting, retaining and training the best staff.”
