In a barn burner Friday night, the Wayne County High School Yellow Jackets lost to the Appling County High School Pirates Friday night, with a score of 39-38.
The Yellow Jackets started the game with a lead of 17-0 in the first quarter. By the start of the third quarter, the pirates had brought some heat, but the jackets were in still ahead, 20-17. With less than minute left in the third quarter, the Pirates took over, bringing the score to Appling 24 and Wayne 20.
Appling had a 3 yard rushing touchdown and a PAT in the fourth quarter, pushing them ahead 31-20. At 5 minutes left in the fourth, Wayne County’s Austin Crews kicked a 25 yard field goal, Appling 31 and Wayne 23. After MJ Fuller’s 4 yard rushing touchdown and 16 yard rushing touchdown, and Austin Crews scoring a PAT, the Yellow Jackets were ahead 38-37.
With under a minute left in the fourth quarter, Appling rushed for a 2 point conversion, and ended the game with a score of Appling County Pirates 39 – Wayne County Yellow Jackets 38.
