HAMILTON, GA (January 28, 2019) – Due to the impending winter weather, the Harris County School District (HCSD) will have early release on Tuesday, January 29.

Dr. Justin Finney, assistant superintendent of business services and technology, stated, “We are participating in daily weather briefings by the Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) and National Weather Service.  As a result of today’s 4:00 p.m. briefing and given the nature and the timing of potential winter weather, I have recommended an early release tomorrow for all Harris County Schools and the cancellation of all after school activities.”

According to weather experts, the forecast for Tuesday, January 29, calls for the possibility of rain from late-morning to mid-afternoon and temperatures in the 40s with a rapid drop in temperatures after sundown and freezing surface temperatures throughout nighttime hours.

As a result, on Tuesday afternoon all schools and buses will release one hour early. Buses will be released for their afternoon routes at the following times:

Elementary schools: 1:30 p.m.

Harris County High School: 1:30 p.m.

Harris County Carver Middle School: 2:00 p.m.

Creekside: 2:30 p.m.

EOC/PLC: 1:30 p.m.

Our intent is to have all bus routes completed by 4:00 p.m.

At this time, the school district schedule for Wednesday, January 30, is to be determined based on weather conditions and the assessment of road conditions on Tuesday evening/night.

As the situation develops and decisions are made, the district will share announcements* through:
