The GBI was requested by a Georgia county police department to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred on Monday.
Preliminary information indicates that at about 1:10 a.m., Clayton County Police Department (CCPD) officers were dispatched to 1803 Marceau Drive in Conley regarding a fight. When officers arrived, a female attempted to flee the scene in a vehicle.
The female driver backed up and struck a police officer and pinned him against a marked CCPD patrol car. A CCPD officer fired at the fleeing vehicle. The vehicle was later recovered approximately one mile from the scene. The female driver has not been located and has not been identified at this time.
The injured officer has a broken leg and he is being treated at Grady Memorial Hospital.
The GBI will continue its independent investigation. Once complete, it will be turned over to the Clayton County District Attorney for review.
