Traffic fatalities over the Memorial Day weekend resulted in 8 traffic deaths. The holiday period began on Fri., May 25th at 6 p.m. and ended on Monday at 11:59 p.m.

Over the 78-hour holiday period, Georgia State Troopers investigated 474 traffic crashes that resulted in 268 injuries from around the state. Troopers also investigated 4 fatal crashes. Those fatalities occurred in Fulton, Wayne, and Chatham counties.

Local agencies reporting traffic deaths during the holiday period were: Cherokee Co. S/O, Cobb Co. PD, Columbus PD, and Thomaston PD.

In addition to crash investigations, Georgia State Troopers arrested 300 people for driving under the influence.
