About 161 years ago, Abraham Lincoln quoted Jesus when he addressed more than 1,000 delegates in the Springfield, Illinois, statehouse for the Republican State Convention in 1858.

Lincoln said “A house divided against itself cannot stand.” Likewise, I believe this United States of America cannot continue to thrive while half of our country applauds the murder of the unborn and the other half stand for the sanctity of life.

Just a few days ago, The Reproductive Health Act was signed into law. New York just legalized abortion up to the moment of birth. It’s clear that some people no longer want abortions to be rare — they want abortion on demand, even up to the time of birth. They also want it funded by your tax dollars.

Like the nation, our Churches are also divided. In a 2017 Pew Research Center survey, American Churches vary widely on their views of abortion. Click here for the article. So, how can one-half of the Churches be wrong?

Even modern science tells us that human life begins at the time of conception. From the moment fertilization takes place, the child’s genetic makeup is already complete. Its gender has already been determined, along with its height and hair, eye and skin color. The only thing the embryo needs to become a fully-functioning human is the time to grow and develop.

After New York Governor Andrew Cuomo signed The Reproductive Health Act into law, the assembly chamber erupted into cheers, with politicians and audience members applauding the bill as if Gov. Cuomo just threw the winning touchdown pass in Super bowl 53.

Why would anybody celebrate the ability to murder an unborn human life?

God plainly reveals to us in His Word that not only does life begin at conception, but He knew us before He formed us in our mother’s womb, (Jeremiah 1:5).

Like Lincoln, I do not expect the United States to be dissolved, but I do expect if our Country does not repent, it will be judged by God. Romans 2:5-9, tells us of the wrath of God is part of his righteous judgment. He will render to every man according to his deeds. He punishes those who do evil and those who do not obey the truth written in His Word.

So maybe the question is, “What is righteousness?”

Righteousness is simply behavior that is morally justifiable or right before God. God himself is the plumb line by which He measures human righteousness.

As a nation, as a Church, as individuals, are we conducting ourselves in the right relationship with God? How about the unborn? Do we regard the sanctity of life? God does!

Righteousness is always contrasted with wickedness. Proverbs 15:9 tells us, “The way of the wicked is an abomination unto the Lord: but he loveth him that followeth after righteousness.” The Bible describes the righteous person as just or right, holding to God and trusting in Him. The just and the righteous, will abhor what God hates. Proverbs 6:17 empathically states that God hates the hand that sheds innocent blood. Abortion is shedding innocent blood.

Being just and righteous before God is not possible to attain on our own because God’s standard is simply too high. We have no ability to achieve righteousness in and of ourselves.

Providentially, a true born-again Christians possess the righteousness of Christ, because “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God” (2 Corinthians 5:21).

Pray that God will change the hearts of our nation. Pray that our nation will turn from its sins and be reconciled with God. Pray for the unborn. Pray for expecting mother’s to make the right decision. If you are facing an unplanned pregnancy and are contemplating an abortion – before you make a decision, pray that God will direct your steps.

If you have had an abortion, God still loves you. He is wanting to forgive you, make you His child, and give you hope for living. The Psalmist said, “For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him. As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us,” (Psalms 103:11&12). God does not hate you for what you have done. He loves you and He does not condemn you. “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit” (Romans 8:1).
