Barry Henderson Resigns as Floyd County Coroner

Coroner Barry Henderson announced on Friday June 30, 2017 that effective immediately, he will resign from the position he has held for close to 18 years. Henderson held a press conference at the Floyd County Administration Building to announce his resignation.
Henderson cited “personal and health reasons” as the need to resign at this time.
“It’s time that I devote a little more time to my family and for health reasons, I’m carrying too much stress right now,” according to Henderson.
Henderson also stated that this was a resignation and not a retirement. He wanted to make sure that Floyd County residents know that he will continue working at Henderson and Sons Funeral Home and Rome Memorial Park.
Henderson’s replacement will be appointed Probate Judge Steve Burkhalter.  Judge Burkhalter said that Chief Deputy Coroner Gene Proctor is “the kind of man that we are going to need to take Barry’s place.”
