I-16/I-75 Interchange Improvement Project: Update and Alerts

Plan ahead.

Construction crews continued work in ongoing activities this past week. Cold and wet weather continues to be a concern in the area. In addition, work on the Otis Redding Memorial Bridge on Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard is still postponed until the water level of the Ocmulgee River drops below flood stage.

Phase 2 and 3 – regarding the region from Hardeman Avenue to the I-16 eastbound exit: workers continue the installation of the structural framing for the future deck of the the Riverside Drive bridge over I-75. Crews are still working on a concrete box culvert along I-75 southbound between the Walnut Street bridge and Riverside Drive bridge. In the coming week, crews will continue building retaining walls along I-75 northbound and southbound. There are NO anticipated traffic shifts or lane closures expected for the upcoming week related to this portion of the project.

Phase I – regarding the region including I-16 from the I-75/I-16 split to the Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard exit: work is postponed on the Otis Redding Memorial Bridge at Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard over the Ocmulgee River until the water level drops below flood stage. Work on the columns and structural framing for the future deck of the bridge along I-16 eastbound near Spring Street is expected to continue as normal. They will also continue construction of retaining walls along I-16 eastbound between Spring Street and Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard. The only closure in this section is the permanent lane closure (for at least a year) on Coliseum Drive/Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard southbound between Clinton Street to Riverside Drive; southbound traffic in that area is currently reduced to one lane.
